Culver Academies Virtual Tour

360° Campus Tour

LARGE SCALE EXPERIENCES

This project was a 360° headache, but it’s actually one of my favorite projects.

Fun fact: I actually opened the software for the first time a couple days before the first version was due. To date: this is the company’s largest, most in depth virtual tour.

I like this project because it called for a lot of skills to be utilized.

  1. Organization: This project had over 200 360° panos, every asset is linked to one or more panos. A user can navigate the entire tour without using any navigation aids (like a map or menu).
  2. Attention to Detail: Every button is properly placed in relation to the campus and every place is accurately named. I designed the menu, icons, and other assets to follow their brand guidelines. Many of the panos are edited to take out hoses, tire tracks, dirty roofs, and other objects that would stick out.
  3. Creativity: Once the structure was down, I needed to find ways to place media in the tour that made sense and related to the client’s needs. I had even embedded media in ways we hadn’t utilized before, like contact forms, floating videos, videos on tv’s, and an interactive map.
  4. Asset management: Anyone who has opened up a Premiere or Indesign project knows the importance of organizing your media assets. This program was the same way. Over 200 assets needed to be organized, color graded, and optimized.

I didn’t really have expectations because I was unfamiliar with virtual tours. At the end of the project I was really happy and impressed with what I could do when given a goal and time to exercise my creativity. The director of marketing and communications told us this was his greatest marketing achievement.
